Abstract (EN)

The family, as one of the fundamental building blocks of society, plays a significant role in the social, emotional, and economic development of individuals. However, the loss of functionality of the family institution for various reasons may result in divorce. The increasing divorce rates observed today affect not only individuals but also society in a multidimensional manner. In this context, understanding the causes and consequences of divorce is essential for contributing to the establishment of healthy family relationships. The aim of this study is to examine the factors influencing divorce from a multidimensional perspective and to evaluate the effects of these factors on individuals' life experiences through the case of Bolu province. The population of the study consists of divorced individuals living in Bolu. The sample includes a total of 147 randomly selected divorced individuals aged 18 and above, residing in the central district of Bolu, who participated voluntarily. Of the participants, 63.3% (n=93) are women and 36.7% (n=54) are men. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire and analyzed using statistical analysis techniques. According to the research findings, communication problems, infidelity, financial incompatibility, domestic violence, and the interference of extended family members in the marriage are among the most prominent causes of divorce. Additionally, significant relationships were identified between the reasons for divorce and variables such as premarital experiences, conflicts during the marriage process, and the level of violence. The findings highlight the necessity of addressing divorce in its individual, psychological, and social dimensions.
