ABSTRACT LE BOVARYSME CHEZ GUSTAVE FLAUBERT Battal O?UZ Yüksek Lisans Tezi, Fransız Dili Eğitimi Anabilim Dalı Danışman : Prof. Dr. A. Necmi YAŞAR Haziran 1998, 124 sayfa This study aimed at studying the complexity and ambiguity of the imaginations added to actual and daily realities. Romanticism, changing to lose its actuality, cause some dissipated women to read sentimental writings. The enthusiastic narration of romanticism failed to satisfy the reader's groups of the period. For that reason, romanticism was replaced by realism aiming at conveying realistic details of daily life. Gustave FLAUBERT, is regarded as the pioneer of this movement trough he showed a stem reaction to it with his novel titled Madame Bovary. Bovarism is regarded as a life style and ideological revolution for the above mentioned women. According to that movement, accepted as a disposition in personality, reality being the reason for psychological troubles drifts people into an imaginative world. The romantic works the young girls read in monastery in their adolescence, help them to establish an imaginative world far remote from real life. Emma Bovary, our heroine, feels as a young girl an extra ordinary physical vitality. She is far away from the recommendation of the family. It is extremely difficult to meet all her personal wishes because human beings have much variety aspirations and demands. That they wish for a life style beyond their capacities drifts them into despair and the vege of suicide. A slight disposition in personality which as alike to cause disintegration, whether person devotes himself to religion, or starts out to cheat on his husband, or is lost in a frantic shopping, drifts her gradually into death which is called mostly bitter end. In this case, man should know how to content with what she has. Bad conditions of life, the illness of the age and the inequality of income among (individuals) has gone beyond the ages. If me still makes us speak about herself, it means that her illness reflects the common way of life of many women of our age.
