Adaptation of the disordered eating attitudes scale (DEAS) short form to Turkish and determination of the relationship between the DEAS-S, eating attitudes test (EAT-26), the eating disorder examination questionnaire (EDE-Q-13) and the emotional eating scale

Aim: This study was conducted to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Short Form of the Disordered Eating Attitude Scale (DEAS-s) and to examine the relationship between the DEAS-s and the Eating Attitudes Test (EAT-26), Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire (EDE-Q-13) and Emotional Eating Scale. Material and Method: This methodological and correlational study was conducted in two stages. In the first stage, the validity and reliability analyses of the Turkish version of the Short Form of the Disordered Eating Attitude Scale (DEAS-s) were performed with 248 adults. In the second stage, the study was completed with 309 adults. Data were collected using the Descriptive Information Form, the DEAS-s, the Eating Attitudes Test (EAT-26), the Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire (EDE-Q-13) and the Emotional Eating Scale and the validity and reliability analyses of the scale were conducted. Results: The mean age of the participants was 30.76±9.53 years and 78.3% were female. The DEAS Short Form preserved its single-factor structure and the Cronbach α coefficient was found to be 0.826. In addition, positive significant relationships were found between DEAS-s scores and YT-26, EDE-Q-13 and Emotional Eating Scale scores (p<0.05). Conclusion: The Turkish version of the DEAS Short Form was found to be a valid and reliable measurement tool for evaluating disordered eating attitudes in adults. The findings revealed that disordered eating attitudes had a strong and significant relationship with emotional eating behaviors and eating disorder symptoms.
