An analiysis of an adaptation with in Brechtean aesthetics: A Kitchen of the Rich (Zengin Mutfağı)

In this study, what the fundemantal rules of "Non-Aristotelean Art of Drama" which is constructed by Bertolt Brecht and their reflections and inflictions on the cinema studies will be examined. The sources of the two different means/styles of theatrical narration and their practices and effects in today's arena of theatre will be compared and contrasted.As the art of drama and the cinema have been utilizing the similar ways of narration and performance, the problems that are dealt in these areas do also connote one another. A kind of problem that is detected in either case is automatically seen in the other. The experiments and searches in one of them is exclusively pertinent to the other such as the skopos, functionality, and aesthetics.Bertolt Brecht's ideas and theatrical practices, which do not aim "catharsis" have affected both fields that are mentioned above. These affects have been observed and realized in the mentality, style, and practice of these fields.In this study, focusing on a work of art (Zengin Mutfağı, 1987- Başar Sabuncu), one of those affects of Bertolt Brecht has been attempted to be depicted in the medium of the cinema.Key Words: Narration in the cinema, non-Aristotelean dramatic art, Brechtean aesthetics, catharsis, and the modern cinema.
