The effect of the Common European security policy of the "Brexit" process

The European Union Common Security and Defense Policy (CSDP) is a dynamic policy area that has experienced a highly institutional and political change, particularly in terms of operational experience. Following the United Kingdom's decision to leave the European Union, the European Union has faced its greatest domestic crisis so far. The fact that Brexit marks the beginning of the European Union's demise and is a process that can create a domino effect is among the comments being made. However, it is believed that the Union will have a stronger position in the political arena, if the remaining 27 member states unite for the Union to survive, and if they further strengthen their cooperation in certain policy areas. In this study, the Brexit process was evaluated from the security perspective. The historical and current issues of the UK, which played a role in the realization of Brexit, were touched upon and the effect of its national values or interests on its attitude towards the European Union was examined. The attitudes and behaviors of the UK and the European Union in terms of traditional and new security approaches, which are theories of International Relations, are examined and explained in terms of today's security understanding. With Brexit, the European Union has understood that it must urgently renew itself and initiate the process of comprehensive reforms. At this point, initiatives regarding European Union's new work on defense Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO) are particularly important. The future initiatives of France and Germany, which seems eager to develop a CSDP, will be determinant of the Union's policies. Through this process, it was tried to evaluate how the security and defense policies of both the UK and the European Union will be shaped.
