The effect of quinoa used in broiler diets on serum antioxidant parameters

Abstract (EN)

This study was carried out to determine the effects of quinoa added to broiler rations at different rates on serum antioxidant levels. In the study, 84 days old Ross 308 male broiler chicks were used and the experiment lasted 34 days. Chicks were divided into 3 main groups as control and Group 1 and Group 2. Each group is divided into 7 subgroups. 10% white quinoa was added to the ration of Group 1 and 20% to the ration of Group 2, while the normal ration was applied to the control group. On the 21st and 34th days of the experiment, the animals were decapitated and blood was drawn. Serums were obtained and the amounts of Superoxide Dismutase (SOD), Catalase (Cat), Glutathione Peroxidase (GPX) were measured by ELISA method. CAT level in group 1 (10% quinoa group) on day 21; significantly higher than the control and group 2 (20% quinoa group) groups (p<0.05). On the 34th day, while the Cat level in group 1 (10% quinoa group) was higher than the control group, the Cat level in group 2 (20% quinoa group) was significantly lower than the control group (p<0.05). Glutathione peroxidase level in group 1 (10% quinoa group) and group 2 (20% quinoa group) on the 21st day was significantly higher than the control group (p<0.05). On the 34th day, there was no significant difference between the groups. At day 21, SOD level in group 2 (20% quinoa group) and group 1 (10% in quinoa group) and the control group were significantly higher (p<0.05). The SOD level in the control group was significantly higher than the other groups. As a result, this study showed that quinone added to the rations is an alternative to corn in terms of high nutritional value and nutritional value, while also having strong antioxidant capacity.
