Abstract (EN)
Incidence of Blood Group and Rh Factor in Brucella Patients. Van Yüzüncü Yıl University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Family Medicine. Specialization Thesis. Van 2025. Objective: The main objective of this study is to evaluate whether there is a statistically significant relationship between Brucella infection and blood group distribution. Materials and Methods: In our study, the files of a total of 223 patients aged between 0 and 99 years, who were diagnosed with brucellosis and presented to the Infectious Diseases Outpatient Clinic of Van Regional Training and Research Hospital between January 2000 and December 2020, were retrospectively reviewed. Findings: This study was conducted by analyzing the blood group distribution of 223 patients diagnosed as Brucella positive at Van Training and Research Hospital between 2000 and 2020. In the study, the blood group rates of Brucella positive patients were compared with the blood group and Rh factor rates obtained from the Van Province Blood Bank. Blood Group Distribution of Brucella Positive Patients (%): A Rh(+) Positive: 45.29%, A Rh(-) Negative: 5.38%, B Rh(+) Positive: 13.00%, B Rh(-) Negative: 1.80%, AB Rh(+) Positive: 7.36%, AB Rh(-) Negative: 2.24%, O Rh(+) Positive: 24.66%, O Rh(-) Negative: 0.90% Blood Group Distribution in Van Province (%): A Rh(+) Positive: 41.15%, A Rh(-) Negative: 3.90%, B Rh(+) Positive: 14.34%, B Rh(-) Negative: 1.80%, AB Rh(+) Positive: 7.36%, AB Rh(-) Negative: 0.80%, O Rh(+) Positive: 27.50%, O Rh(-) Negative: 3.15% Conclusion: This study showed that there is no strong relationship between Brucella infection and specific blood groups or Rh factors. According to the results of the Chi-Square test (p-value: 0.835), no statistically significant difference was found between the blood group distribution in Van province and that of Brucella positive patients. Additionally, no significant differences were observed in analyses based on variables such as age and gender. This suggests that Brucella infection may have a random distribution with respect to blood group or demographic factors
