Özet (EN)

ABSTRACT Buldan is located in the west of Turkey, in the south of the Aegean Region and is the town which is bounded to the city Denizli. At the north of Buldan, there is Uşak subscript, at the west, there are Aydın and Manisa, at the south it is surrounded by Sarayköy. Buldan has always been a settlement area for different nations throughout the history. Buldan was an important intersection point of the caravan roads in the Ancient times. It was located on the intersection point of the roads, which combine Sardis-Philadelphia-Laodikeia with Anatolia and Anatolia with Mesopotamia. The traditional houses of Buldan differ from the other traditional houses of the Ottoman Empire with the textile industry function. The textile industry which shaped the way of life; due to the social and economical organization; has also shaped the architecture due to the space organization. The houses were formed with this extra spaces which the textile industry could be held. The houses of Buldan have two main spaces as the workbench room and the sofa. The workbench is situated on the ground floor and the ground floor is shaped according to the organization of this workbench. The workbench is situated sometimes below the sofa with another extra room or sometimes in the courtyard. The houses mostly have exterior sofas and are oriented to the scene. The ground floors of the houses were stonemade and the second floors were constructed in the wooden structural system. The interesting characteristics of thehouses is that the facades were covered with tin-plate in order to protect the wood from the environmental conditions. Buldan is one of the well-preserved districts of Turkey, because the new houses were built away from district and due to the textile industry, which is still going on in traditional houses. But beyond this; most of the houses were not registered and in order to preserve this district, the houses should be registered.
