Minorities under Bulgarian government (1878-2004)

Since Bulgaria had gain its independance from Otoman Empire, Bulgariangoverments at all times used Hristianity in order to continue their assimilationpolitic against Turkish minority in Bulgaria. But it is clear that this politic wasunsuccessful, because there are stil more than 1 milion Turkihs-Muslimpopulation living in Bulgaria.This assimilation policy against Turkish-Muslim minority intensifieddramatically when the communist rejime came into power. Turkish-Muslimminority was refused at all during Jivkov?s reign.At the end of communist rejime in 1989 the new administration blamed theassimilation (Bulgarisation) process and promissed to give back Turkihs minorityrights. While in 1990 the Balkan countries were occupied with war adventure andinner dispute, Bulgaria succeed in great dimention to reform its policy towardsdemocratisation.Until 1996 the reforms in Bulgaria were delayed. It was due to theproduction mechanism which was paralysed and according to the old sistemBulgaria needed very different policy organisation.It took a long time for Bulgarian citizens to get used to the new sistem andfor he born of the new politic staff that will carry out the new democratisationprocess. Especially during the Socialist Party?s administration the inconsistentpolicy in Bulgaria took much more place.With the begining of the new democratisation process in Bulgaria theTurk?s Righrd and Freedoms politic party became the key party in Bulgaria?s newgoverment. Although there are some Bulgarian groups who protest against Turksbeing represented in the parliament the Turkish population in Bulgaria live inpeace end harmony with all other citizens of this country.After the Union of Democratic Forces won the election in 1997 it gavemuch more attention to the reforms, to the Turks rights and fredom and to theTurkish-Bulgarian relations.Nowadays the Turkish-Muslim minority in Bulgaria have their own rightsthat are taken under guarantee. But because of high unemployment rate people inBulgaria live in anxious conserning their life in present. That is way migrationtowards Turkey and Europe is stil continuing.Bulgaria?s regional cooperation and AB integration process will help thiscountry to progress further. But in order to strenght the country?s prosperitydegree Bulgaria have to strive much more in its economic field.
