The effect of cloud computer-based cooperation learning method on the academic success and cooperative learning attitude

Abstract (EN)

In this study, the effect of cloud computing supported cooperative learning application on students' academic achievement and attitudes towards cooperative learning was investigated. In the research, a quasi-experimental design with pretest posttest control group, which is one of the quantitative research methods supported by qualitative data, was used. The study group of the research consisted of 41 students who were studying at Sakarya University, Computer and Instructional Technologies Department in the 2015-2016 academic year and took the Internet-Based Programming course. 21 of these 41 students were in the experimental group and 20 of them were in the control group. In the study, the student group that received education with the "Cloud computing service supported Collaborative Learning" method formed the experimental group, and the students who received education with the "cooperative learning based on traditional classroom activities" method formed the control group. The Internet-Based Programming Course Achievement Test was developed to determine whether there is a significant difference in the academic success of students who take Internet-based programming courses. In the internet-based programming course achievement test development study, the data obtained from the application of the test were analyzed with the ITEMAN program. The Kuder Richardson 20 reliability coefficient was found to be 0.666 in the analysis. When the opinions of the experts and the literature are examined, it is accepted that the measurement tool is valid in terms of scope, structure and appearance. In the study, the Cooperative Learning Attitude Scale, developed by Heba and Nouby (2008) and adapted into Turkish by Kiper (2016), was used to determine whether there was a significant difference in students' views on cooperative learning activities before and after the application. In this study, which includes quantitative and qualitative data, it was decided to analyze the quantitative data first. SPSS 22.0 package program was used for the analysis of quantitative data. Within the scope of the research, it was aimed to examine the students' attitudes towards the academic achievement and cooperative learning and their views on the application of cloud computing supported internet-based programming education. In the 13-week working process carried out in this context; It has been determined that there is a significant difference between the pre-experiment and post-experiment scores of the experimental group students who participated in the research in order to determine the academic achievement levels depending on the studies done. It has been determined that there is a significant difference between the pre-experiment and post-experiment scores of the control group students who participated in the research in order to determine the academic achievement levels of the students in the examinations. It was observed that there was no significant difference between the experimental and control groups in terms of academic achievement levels related to the pre-test scores of the experimental and control group students participating in the research. It has been revealed that there is a significant difference between the experimental and control groups in terms of the post-test academic achievement scores of the experimental and control group students participating in the research. In addition, according to the results obtained from the qualitative data of the research, although the experimental group students had received basic programming education before, they did not receive PHP training, they did not look forward to working with the group, especially because the students in the group did not fulfill their duties, and Cloud9 cloud computing service relieved many concerns in group work and was supportive. Their views were prominent. The results of the research were discussed within the scope of the literature.
