Map making using GIS-cloud technology for tourism industry: The case of Tanzania republic

Tourism in Tanzania is one of the important sector that contributes much in the country's economy. However, together with this fact, a lot of great and important tourism resource information are not made available to the large public in the world. For this case, in order to make sure that sustainability in tourism is retained, there is need of using internet environment to promote tourism resources in a proper way so that information can easily be accessed by the public. Apart from tourist attractions, others like food and drinks, security, political stability and transportation system are among of the needed information to be addressed for tourists. That means a proper and adequate information on promoting tourism is critical to merge with the other information factors. By so doing, tourists at large will have enough information on deciding and plan the place to visit and at the end a number of tourist travels will increase. The advancement of GIS and cloud computing technologies has made possible to prepare and present tourists informations using comprehensive dijital maps over the internet environments. By using the presented information on the map, tourists can obtained detailed information when browsing "hovers" over the chosen features via their own devices such as laptops, mobile phones and Tablets. Therefore, this study uses both GIS and cloud computing technologies to develop a Spatially Based Website for Tourism in Tanzania (SBWTT) that contains comprehensive digital maps which are dynamic and interactive for tourists all over the world. The web map applications were prepared with MangoMap mapping tool.
