Wedding traditions and music practices in Tefenni county of Burdur province in 1970s

Historical structure, traditions and traditional music culture in Tefenni county of Burdur province have an important place in Teke region. It is known that developments in industry, agriculture and technology have caused changes in people's socio-cultural structure,traditions,lifestyles and routines. How and when these developments in the world effects societies can differ according to the their cultural, economical and geographical conditions. The usage of electricity in Tefenni county of Burdur Province at the end of the 1970s, having more technological devices and and the usage of television at homes have led to rapid changes in its cultural values and traditions. It is also known that these changes have influenced the wedding ceremonies which have an important place in culture. So studying all wedding traditions which were before the electricity usage gained importance. Purposes of this research are discovering the Yörük's (nomads) and Türkmen's wedding traditions and instruments played in the weddings (in front of houses or around the neighborhood) in villages of Tefenni county in Burdur province in 1970s, discovering their types and usage areas ,looking for works of music which about to be forgotten, notating them recording the results of studies and transferring them to the next generations. Data of the research which is figured by the case study (one of the searching types of qualitative study) and culture analysis(ethnography) were gathered by the way of document analysis and semi-structured interviews. Gathered data was analyzed by the descriptive method. All the traditions in weddings were studied in detail. It is found that in 17 of these traditions music was used. The music was usually played with the instruments such as clarion, drum, "bağlama" and "leğen".2 examples of laments which about to be forgotten, 14 musical works which played with drum and zurna were found and notated. Rhythm and tunes of these works, their sound widths and metronome levels and their usage areas in weddings were studied in detail.
