Abstract (EN)

In the literature, there are buckling restrained braces (BRB) which have different buckling restrained mechanisms (BRM). However, none of these designs have the physical dimensions that can be used to reinforce existing structures. Within the scope of this study, it is aimed to develop and produce BRB designs which prevent out of buckling, that can be used for retrofitting and which have sufficient hysterical performance. For this purpose, 7 BRBs with BRMs consisting of modular precast concrete blocks or reinforced concrete blocks, were produced and tested on uniaxial tests at Structural Mechanics Laboratory of Akdeniz University. Within the sope of the thesis study, core plate (CP) dimensions of the BRBs are the same. The difference between the BRBs is enhancement of BRMs. BRM of the previous element, which does not demonstrate sufficient hysterical performance is developed and retested. In addition, different approaches have been used in the unconnected interface between CP and BRM. Thus, the design parameters of the new generation BRBs were identified. The data obtained from this study show that if BRM is strengthened by appropriate methods, BRBs show good hysterical behavior, sufficient load carrying capacity and energy damping capacity. In this way, the use of BRB in strengthening existing structures may be an alternative to other strengthening methods.
