A research about the usage of building materials in office buildings in Bursa

Office buildings have developed continuously until the past, and have changed radically with the industrial revolution and become one of the most important building derivatives of our city today. The requirement for the design of office buildings in the most appropriate way to the conditions of the time has led to the construction of these buildings in building technology and building materials. The building shell, which establishes the relationship between the buildings, and the external environment and forms an interface between the city and the building, is a very important building component for office buildings that have become a symbol in the city. The aim of this thesis is to help the selection of the appropriate facade system and materials by examining the facade applications which have a high rate in the construction costs of the office buildings and the building materials used in the facade. Within the scope of the study, literature is searched and basic concepts such as office concept, the relation between facade and material in office buildings, and facade systems are examined. The method of the study is to form interview and observation forms based on the classifications in the literature and to evaluate the data obtained through these forms. The findings were compared with the related literature; system and material selection to help practitioners, designers,and users have been tried to reach evaluations. Based on the data obtained as a result of the study, the factors affecting the selection of facade systems and coating materials and the problems in the coating materials were evaluated. In detailed and high-cost applications, the selection of a suitable system and coating material extends the life of the facade. For this reason, performance requirements should be met, the most appropriate system and material should be selected for the intended use, and necessary precautions should be taken to prevent material problems.
