Abstract (EN)

Increasing environmental awareness around the world has revealed the necessity to adopt in a more environmentally and ecologically sustainable conditions for the leather production industry. Studies on the chemicals used in leather production and the pollution loads brought by preferred production methods have gained momentum in order to be more treatable nowadays. It is important to use water resources efficiently in consideration of commercial competition conditions in the industrial area. Accordingly, it is aimed to develop production techniques that add value to leather in leather industry with more environmental applications. In this context, regulations are made with the ministries and it is important that the leather industry undergoes this change process by re-organization within this scope. In this thesis, studies were carried out to determine the production capacities of leather factories operating in Bursa Leather Specialized Industrial Zone, to determine wastewater quality based on production profile and to determine the parameters that adversely affect the sustainability of the region. The wastewater discharge profile was evaluated by the samples taken. The parameters that are followed up by analyzing the samples in the certain periods; pH (TS EN ISO 10523), Suspended Solid (TS EN 872), Chemical Oxygen Demand, Oil and Grease (TS 8312), Total Chromium (SM 3500-Cr B), Sulfur (TS ISO 13358), Electrical Conductivity, Total Kjeldahl Nitrogen (TS 7924 EN 25663). As a result; It was seen that the preferred production profile in BLSIZ is focused on the production of semi-finished leather. In the analyzes carried out, parameters such as electrical conductivity, chemical oxygen demand, suspended solids, total kjeldahl nitrogen and total sulfur have been highlighted. During the monitoring process, especially the electrical conductivity parameter was found to have a negative effect on the treatment of wastewater throughout the region. Pilot studies have been carried out in order to improve this parameter and it is thought that positive results will be provided with the implementation of these studies throughout the region.
