Abstract (EN)

The aim of this research is to study conflict tendencies and the perceptions regarding problem solving skills of 9th and 12th grade Anatolian High School, Girls? Vocational High School and general high school students in Bursa city.As research model, description model was used. In the research, by using random sample method with layer, total 519 students (325 9th grade students and 194 12th grade students) of Anatolian High Schools, Girls? Vocational High Schools and general high schools in Bursa city centre were included to sample.In this research, ?Information Form? developed by the researcher, ?Conflict Tendency Measurement? developed by Üstün Dökmen and ?Problem Solving Inventory? developed by Heppner and Peterson which was adapted and tested for validity and reliability by Hisli-Sahin were used in order to collect data.After having required permissions from Ministry of National Education, data were collected from the sample defined by the researcher and evaluated by the package program SPSS 18.0. Multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) was used in order to determine the difference between dependent variables. The relationship between variables was studied by Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Analysis.The indications demonstrated that there is no significant difference in students? conflict tendency and problem-solving skill perception levels in terms of the dependents variables; type of high school (p= .56), education level of mother (p= .12), education level of father (p= .72), working status of father (p= .12) and number of siblings (p=.75). The indications of the research denotes that there is significant difference in students? problem-solving skills perception in terms of their grade and in students? conflict tendencies in terms of gender and working status of mother. The perceptions of 9th grade students concerning problem-solving skills are lower, compared to 12th grade students (p< .01). The conflict tendencies of female students are higher than male students (p< .05). In the conclusion of the research, positive and significant relationship between students? conflict tendencies and problem-solving skills perceptions has been found.Keywords: Conflict tendency, problem solving skills, adolescence
