Abstract (EN)

Objectives. To evaluate the severity and salivary parameters of molar incisor hypomineralization (MIH) and its effect on OHRQoL in children and adolescents. Study design. The study was conducted with 50 children and adolescents aged between 8-15 years who effected with and without MIH applied to Akdeniz University Faculty of Dentistry Department of Pedodontics. ICDAS II, DMFT/S, dft/s and gingival/plaque indices, saliva pH, flow rate, buffering capacity, element composition were evaluated. The COHIP-SF19 scale was used to evaluate the effect of oral and dental health on general quality of life in patients with MIH. Results. A total of 100 children, 57 females and 43 males (mean age =10.12±1,85) participated in the study. There was no difference between ICDAS II, DMFT/S scores, but dft/s index values were statistically significant (p<0,05). Simplified oral hygiene index (OHI- S) of MIH-patients were statistically higher (p<0,05) but no significant differences in modified gingival indices (MGI) were found between two groups. Although the salivary pH and flow rate of the patients in the study group were lower, the buffering capacity was higher than those in the control group, but no significant difference obsereved between two groups. It was determined that the mean values of Ca, P and C content in the saliva samples of MIH patients were higher than patients without MIH and this difference was low for P and C but significantly higher for Ca (p<0,05). The total number of teeth with MIH/number of anterior teeth with MIH and COHIP-SF19 total, COHIP-SF19 Oral health values were found to be significantly different. Conclusion: Raising awareness of patients about MIH and taking preventive measures in the early period will have a positive effect on OHRQoL. Briefly, to the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to evaluate the association Ca, P and C levels in saliva of children with MIH.
