Özet (EN)
Faik Sabri Duran, who is regarded as one of the pioneers of modern geography in Turkey and has made great contributions to the development of geography education in our country, is one of the most important figures in terms of shedding light on the process of nationalization during the establishment phase of the Republic of Turkey with his personality and his works. Faik Sabri Duran, who carried out important studies for Turkish readers to understand their own nation and develop a comparative consciousness, also carried out studies in line with the educational and cultural policies of the period and wrote many works in this context. One of his works is his work titled The English and Hungarians among the Great Nations. This work, written in Ottoman Turkish, is written in a simple and literary language. The book, The Great Nations of the British and Hungarians, is important in terms of its comparative analysis of the historical development, cultural characteristics and social structures of different nations. This book provides readers with in-depth information about both the British and the Hungarians and contributes to understanding how the consciousness of nationhood is shaped. In the book, the social, cultural and political phases of the British and Hungarians throughout history are analyzed in the context of how they gained the qualification of being a "great nation". Duran explains the attitudes of both nations towards historical events, how they shaped their institutions and how they developed their social consciousness, while at the same time providing the reader with a general vision of civilization. This book is important not only in terms of narrating historical events, but also in terms of trying to understand the character traits, value systems and social order of nations. The author compares and contrasts the modern state structures of the British, which developed through seafaring, political stability and colonialism, and the struggling and culturally strong identity of the Hungarians in Central Europe, and conveys both similarities and differences to the reader. In this respect, the book is a valuable resource for geography, sociology and history enthusiasts.
