Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study is to compare shear bond strength of retainers using 3 different retention appliances and enamel abrasion methods also to compare mode of fracture, wire deformation and enamel surface changes following methods of abrasion in vitro. 270 intact lower incisors teeth were embedded in acrylic blocks in pairs. The dead wire, CAD/CAM produced and fiber containing wires applied to teeth and has been roughened with acid, Er:YAG and Er,Cr:YSGG laser. 9 groups have been examined. The roughness of surface was observed by scanning electron and atomic force microscopy. The samples were analyzed for shear bond. The ARI index was also used to assess residual adhesive material on the teeth. As a result, dead wire and acid group were found to have the highest bonding strength and bonding strength for all groups in which acid has been used as agent were found to be higher than others. Retainers deformation has most been noticed in the dead wire-acid group. Among all groups CAD/CAM produced wire showed the least deformation and in which no deformation has been observed. In this thesis, it was determined that there was a significant correlation between ARI scores and agents. Consequently, acid-etching mechanism has been found to create more enamel surface roughness than laser groups. It was also found that the combination of acid method and dead wire had the highest bonding strength, although not statistically significant. Considering the amount of adhesive remained on the enamel surface and the ability of clinical reuse of CAD/CAM produced wire does not exhibit any deformation, it is thought to be more conservative for the patient and more advantageous for the doctor in terms of the session time.
