The evaluation of the verses of jihad in the contemporary period: The case of Sayyid Qutb

Sayyid Qutb is an important figure who has a reputation in Islamic geography and his works are still effective today. The author cannot be considered independent from the period in which he lived. The geography of the region affected him. The fact that he saw that the Muslims were different from each other and that the Islamic society suffered from this problem made it possible for him to focus on this subject in his tafsir. For he attributed the fact that the Muslims were in crisis and the Koran was not sufficiently understood and the provisions were not sufficiently enforced. Seyyid Qutb looked at the situation of Muslims in his time and that Islam should be experienced as it was in the first day. However, he stated that jihad may be necessary after the war. Therefore, according to Sayyid Qutb, jihad appears to be understood as a struggle that should be in every aspect of life. Islam is a religion of peace. Some orientalists, however, refer to the jihad; They claim that Islam is a religion of war and spread by the power of the sword. They even create an armed struggle that all people will continue until they become Muslims.
