The Gettier problem in Contemporary Epistemology

When we say the Contemporary Epistemology period, it is the name of the period that was initiated by epistemic logicians in and around Vienna and attracted great attention in the Anglo-American environment. We can also see contemporary epistemology as a philosophical process that is considered a continuation of the modern period, which includes the understanding of knowledge in the 20th century and the current century. It is the field of contemporary epistemology, which determines the course of this period and even forms the basis of it, where the definition attributed to Plato, "Knowledge is justified true belief", which is accepted by the majority, is re-divided into its components and examined, bringing with it heated debates and movements. According to some, contemporary epistemology is the name of the period in which the traditional understanding of knowledge, which was dying on its deathbed, was dealt a heavy blow as a result of Gettier's epistemic rebellion. "Is Justified True Belief Knowledge?", a three-page book written by Edmund L. Gettier in 1963. His article was written against the traditional definition of knowledge and had a greater impact than even the author could have predicted. In this article, Gettier argues that even if a true belief is justified and even rationalized, it is not enough to exclude the element of chance. Our study aims to evaluate which questions have been answered regarding the definition of knowledge and which questions and problems it has brought about, based on both Plato's Theaitetus dialogue and Gettier's three-page article.
