The use of glass and composite materials in contemporary sculpture art

Abstract (EN)

It is seen that the history of sculpture dates back to ancient times in the light of the paintings drawn by human beings on the cave walls and the miniature sculptures made from animal bones. The sculptures which are made by the inspiration of nature were replaced by the ones those are made by the inspiration religious beliefs over time, and the art of sculpture was used as a tool in line with these beliefs. Along with the settled life, there were developments in the art of sculpture performed in religious ceremonies. While sculptures made in small diameters were replaced by sculptures made in large sizes, the using materials have also diversified. With the use of stone, wood, glass and bronze, the art of sculpture has also been moved to different dimensions. The sculptures used in architectural structures in Egyptian art couldn't move beyond being an expression of gratitude to the ancestors. The sculpture, which exists with religious beliefs until the Hellenistic era, has taken on a structure that can take daily life as a source of inspiration. The art of sculpture, in which ordinary people can be treated as a subject, began to experience its golden age with the Industrial Revolution. Different using materials instead of traditional materials have also changed the ideas and methods; also in line with changing ideas and methods, different understandings of art have emerged. The usage of different materials in the art of sculpture reached its peak with Dadaism, and the artists competed with each other to do the undone. Materials such as nylon, plastic and metal, which are used from the beginning of Industrial Revolution, had a profound effect on the art language of the artists, and were preferred because of their lightness and easiness to process and afford. Sculpture art, which keeps up with the contemporary era, can be performed in every part of daily life with different materials.
