The phenomenon of anxiety as a form of pictorial expression in contemporary painting

The phenomenon of anxiety is an intense emotional state experienced when waiting for possible negative future events in fear and restlessness. The artist documents the emotional state of society and the individual to a certain extent by reflecting the traumatic experiences he experienced during the creation process into his works, creating the identity and spirit of the period with a universal theme. It is observed that the works of art reflect both the artist's own experiences and the spirit and social dynamics of the period in which he lived, and that challenging emotions such as anxiety turn into a form of artistic expression. Therefore, it is thought that by reflecting the personal experiences of artists in their creative processes and the effects of social events through the works they produce, the phenomenon of anxiety can be an important example of how it can be explained in the universal language of art. The main purpose of the master's thesis titled''The Phenomenon of Anxiety as a Form of Pictorial Expression in Contemporary Painting" is to relate the traumas experienced by the artist depending on the era and period he is in to the phenomenon of anxiety as a form of pictorial expression. In the changing and developing processes of the age, the artist, influenced by the events he has experienced, finds himself in a state of anxiety according to his place. As in other forms of artistic expression, anxiety in the art of painting is shaped within itself as a part of the psychological effects in the artist's works. The works, which are the concrete data of every emotion expressed, express the era, the period and the artist himself in a genre. Art is also used as a conductor, and the combination of art and psychology of the phenomenon of anxiety has been investigated and evaluated in this context. The feeling of alienation and anxiety created by technology has increased the feeling of uncertainty and anxiety in the inner world of people with the pandemic process in the period we are living in. These feelings have also been a source of inspiration for artists and have found expression in their works. This prominent role of anxiety in contemporary painting art, together with the examples of artists covered in the thesis and the practical studies carried out as part of the thesis study, has been concluded to be important in terms of showing that art is not only an aesthetic means of expression, but also a reflection of a deep understanding of social and psychological realities. Literature surveys were conducted based on the general screening model in the thesis study. The information and data supporting the research were provided by accessing the studies in the thesis data center. In the context of writing, articles, books, academic journals and virtual resources have been used. By examining the data in different disciplines, the scope of information was expanded and the content was supported. It is considered that this approach is useful in terms of presenting an analytical perspective by increasing the mastery of the thesis topic.
