Tree as contemporary art object

The nature throughout the human history, has inspired artists in their process of production. Artists have thought about the nature and approached it as a realistic or abstract matter. They've also emhasised the dinamics of the nature itself and it's components in the related era politically, socially, economically and environmentally. In the light of these components, the term 'trees' as a sequence of the nature has been a significant topic od art history. They've handled trees in the way of era's point of view, ideologies and approach to the nature. This research is basicly built on some pioneer artists whose works themed on mainly trees in the world of painting. The research aims to reveal the theme of trees in the works chronologically from mythology to contemporary. As a contemporary art object its cultural place and importance will be discussed. Thus, in the thesis, before and after modernism, the share and function of the term 'trees' in the art world are highlighted and concluded with a general evaluation. Trees have been a vast subject which have left deep footprints in the western art history world. In the beginning of the thesis, the abstract term of 'trees' are identified as a significant symbol of cultures. The term provides various cultural differences reflected on them like in 'A wish tree', 'A cosmic tree, 'A life tree' and 'A holly tree'. In the second part of the thesis, trees as a component of the nature is handled. The meaning of the art that is loaded in it differs in the contemporary world via different cultural understandings. Among all these substances, history of art and mythology have got distinctive roles. The nature and trees in the societies of Eygpt and far East as an object of art creators, are symbols of immortality and existence. Trees have taken part in arts both metaphorical and physical objects to serve the creators desires. All the elements in the nature exist according to entropy and integrity so artists ways and used materials while prosessing the nature in their art are numerous. Some of the observant artists have worked the consistent, balanced structure of the nature down to trees. In the fourth part, trees are taken into consideration in the western world of art. In the time line from early Ronesans to modernism some distinguishing names and their works are mentioned here in this part. In the fifth part, we're seeing trees as an expressive tool in the contemporary world . Firstly, the changes that occured in arts after 1960's are presented. The matter of symbolic body of trees and becoming the artpiece itself are brought forward and supported by examples. Finally, the personal in progress works conceptionally in relation with previously mentioned works can also be seen in this part of the thesis. In the conclusion part, each part is parapharased.
