Abstract (EN)

There are a lot of undecided terms in use which are sometimes about time, sometimes about content like conceptual, contemporary, postmodern that aims to divide, frame 21. Century art. These terms are usually in sync with style, understanding, ideology etc. which constitutes art history. Beside these concepts there are impulses which thought to be related to human nature and essence like fear, disgust, beauty, ugly and concepts which are tied to them as grotesque that defies confined divisions/thought being divisions of art history and finds a place in every period one way or another. How these eternal concepts exist, understood, change in meaning forms a foundation for different perspectives in art analysis. Adjective/noun/concept/… like grotesque which simultaneously arouse multiple meanings and transforms according to period its in gives differentiated results in art analysis. This research offers insight to grotesque and contradictions that forms grotesque in mentioned terms. Keywords: Ugly, Abject, Uncanny, Grotesque
