Reflection of contemporary problems on tafsir: The example of Hak Dini Kur'an Dili and Tafsir al-Manar

The nineteenth century marks an era when Islamic geographies suffered multiple defeats against the West, and Islamic thinkers produced ideas about the resurgence of Muslims. Our study also examines how some contemporary problems were reflected in the interpretations of Tafsir al-Manar and Hak Dini Kur'an Dili, which were compiled in this era. Our thesis; consists of three main parts. In the first part, with the thought that understanding the age will be an important way to understand the ideas and commentators, the modern period is looked at panoramically with the concepts of modernism and Islamic modernism, and the short life stories of the commentators are mentioned. In the second part, in the first chapter it has been examined how the era, whose framework is drawn, reflects on the theoretical issues in the tafsir we have discussed. In the third and last chapter, the reflections of the ground and mental background discussed in the first two chapters, and the efforts to put them into practice in terms of some contemporary social problems, in the interpretations of Manar and Hak Dini Kur'an Dili are discussed. Even though the title of "Contemporary Problems" has a content and scope that goes beyond the limits of a master's thesis, the subject has been limited by selecting some contemporary problems that we think best reflect the era and the interpretations we are dealing with. The word "contemporary" is also used to indicate a period, aiming to exclude other definitions. In our thesis, the interpretations of Manar and Hak Dini Kur'an Dili; it has been determined that the spirit of the age and modernism have an effect, albeit at different rates. It has been thought that if we exclude other elements, the fact that tafsirs were compiled in different geographies and political conditions played a role in the differentiation of these effects from place to place. In both tafsir, traces of the movements of the modern period were found in the handling of some contemporary theoretical and social problems. These traces were evident in Manar's tafsir, and more implicitly in Hak Dini Kur'an Dili tafsir.
