Use of Samsat motifs in contemporary plate design and sample applications

Ceramic began with the history of humanity and became widespread with the discovery of fire. Ceramics, which has been seen in various civilizations that have survived until today, have shed light on human history as a result of archaeological researches. The most distinctive feature of the Samsat Mound in South Eastern Anatolia is one of the main centers used for crossing the Euphrates.Samsat that remained under the sovereignty of different civilizations at short intervals has gained importance with various and rich ceramic works belonging to B.C.5000-3000 years. The Middle Age, Helenestic, Roman, Iron, Late and Middle Bronze (Hittite) ages were found in four stages at Samsat Höyük. In the first part of the study; Adıyaman province,the location and importance of Samsat Mound in Adıyaman and brief information about Adıyaman Museum are given. In the second part,brief information belonging to the Middle age, Hellenistic and Roman periods that were tackled as a subject of the thesis and brief information about the ceramics of these periods takes part. In the third part,the functional,prominent works with functional,artistic and aesthetic features related to store ceramics which are exhibited have been investigated and information about this is presented. In the fourth part of the study, in the light of all the data obtained within the scope of the research, production processes of the thesis studies is included. Thesis works inspired by the motifs of Samsat ceramics were used different techniques and the information related to them is briefly explained . In the last section, Samsat ceramic motifs were reinterpreted according to contemporary ceramic design principles and produced in two categories as tile and ceramic plates. In the studies, a common artistic expression language reflecting those periods was created. Within the thesis 30 studies were conducted and 20 studies were selected. The technical and plastic art analyzes of these studies were made and given by visuals in the thesis. In the conclusion part of the research, the findings were discussed and it was tried to a new perspective to contemporary ceramic understanding.
