Abstract (EN)

With the scientific advances and new discoveries in the 19th century in the Western world, the way people perceived nature, events, and objects became more abstract. These developments led to the introduction of an abstract perspective into Western art in the early 1900s. The abstract/abstractionist approach to art, which emerged as a reaction against previous naturalistic approaches, became fully integrated into a movement in Turkish painting and gained a place among artists through various forms of expression in the 1950s. However, when we look at the relevant literature, although there are many studies on abstract/abstractionist tendencies in Turkish painting, we have not come across any research on figure interpretations in the context of spot abstraction. Therefore, research on this topic was deemed important. In this context, this research, titled "Figure in The Context of Stain Abstraction in Contemporary Turkish Painting," aims to contribute to the relevant literature by examining examples of works by Adnan Turani, Ali Candaş, Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu, Hayati Misman, Mustafa Ata, Mustafa Ayaz, Ömer Uluç, Vedat Örs, Yavuz Tanyeli, and Zeki Faik İzer. The research reveals that these artists generally prioritize color and spotty abstractions in their works, and incorporate emotional and aesthetic figural abstractions. The research, which utilized qualitative research methods, was limited to examples of works produced by the artists in question between 1950 and 2025. Keywords: Turkish Painting, Abstract, Abstraction, Stain Abstraction, Figure.
