A technical and thematic analysis of Câhiz's storytelling and al-Buhalâ'

ABSTRACT Language is the factor among the factors that male communication available among people. When people want to transfer their emotions and thoughts in esthetic and neat way, not in a direct way, they apply to literature. In literature both verse and prose genres are found. Story is the most important sample of prose. In the story, feelings and thoughts are expressed in a freer style. Although the example of story in Arabic literature was seen in the early periods, it lived its brightest period in the Modern period. Câhiz, who lived in the Abbasid period from the first periods, wrote her book al-Buhalâ, which will set an example for the story genre. There are lots of stories about mean people and incidents of people who go to extremes in frugality in the book. In our study, first of all, information about the story, which is a literary genre, is given and then the period in which Câhiz lived, his life and literary personality are discussed. In these two sections, both the basic features and elements of the story and the information about Cahiz are conveyed by using classical and modern sources. Finally, after the stories selected from the stories in the work called al-Buhalâ were briefly introduced and summarized, the material, technical/aesthetic and content elements were examined and revealed in detail.
