Estimation of some stand parameters using Gokturk-2 satellite imagine: A case study in CAKU Faculty of Forestry Research Forest

Abstract (EN)

This study was carried out to estimate stand volume, basal area, number of trees, quadratic mean diameter and mean height with Göktürk-2 satellite image in Çankırı Karatekin University (ÇAKÜ) Faculty of Forestry Research forest. The stand volume, basal area, number of trees, quadratic mean diameter and mean height were measured at 61 tempoarary sampling plots observation plots. Brightness values and vegetation indices for the each sample plot were obtained from Göktürk-2 satellite image. Regression analyses were conducted to determine relationships between the brightness, vegetation indices and stand volume, basal area, number of trees, quadratic mean diameter and mean height. Linear combination of band 2, SR, and EVI predicted stand volume (R2=0.298, Sy.x=45.61095 andR2=0.442, Sy.x=37.03, respectively); of band 1 and SR predicted basal area (R2=0.352, Sy.x=6.3739 and R2=0.363, Sy.x= 4.3472, respectively); band 3 and band 4, EVI and NDVI predicted number of trees(R2=0.221, Sy.x=172.918 andR2=0.292, Sy.x=84.1182, respectively); band 4, EVI, and DVI predicted stand mean diameter( R2 =0.114 Sy.x=2.71347 and R2 =0.266 Sy.x=2.5406, respectively); band 2 and band 3, EVI, and DVI described stand mean height (R2 =0.273, Sy.x= 0.4868 andR2 =0.288, Sy.x=0.4866, respectively). There sults further showed that vegetation indices could predict the stand volume, basal area, and number of tree when better than other combinations of Göktürk-2 individual band brightness values.
