Abstract (EN)

The art of instrument making in Turkey is getting more advanced and widespread in artistic, scientific and manufacture senses. There is a steady increase in the numbers of expert professionals in instrument making with accordance to the academic education given at universities' instrument making departments. The art of instrument making has been trying to advance and become widespread at universal level since 1960's. In this regard, academic studies are being improved to guide the art of instrument making in technical, cultural, scientific and aesthetic senses.In this study, the cutting hand tools used in instrument making, inclined towards to achieve best results by right material usage, which type of steel should be chosen, to ascertain which material should be used with sharpening and how to bring out this equipments effect, advantages and disadvantages on wooden material. With conclusion of this study and with the help of our findings we will have enough technical data to compile a technical source material which could be used to achieve clean and impeccable workmanship by choosing recommended tools.The intention of this study is to provide information on; steel, types of steels used in wood cutting hand tools used in string instruments, sharpening equipments and cutting theory. Surveys had been made related with this study and experiments had been made to achieve optimum working performance. With the help of gathered results, assessments and suggestions have been given.
