An anlysis about depression levels of passive and active retired people

Depression is one of the most common psychiatric disorder now; in these modern times, causing cognitive, emotional, behavioral outcomes which reduces one's quality of life and interfer with ability of work meaning endamages functionality. Depression which is being studied increasingly in recent years is the main focus in this study; specifically depression in the elderly. For this study Sociademographic Form, Beck's depression inventory, CES depression scale and sociodemographic questionnaires are used. Research sample is constituted by 100 women and 99 men, their ages change between 42 and 72 who are randomize in İstanbul. In the lights of the findings, it's reached that sex, martial and economic status, age and life satisfaction has significant effects on depression. Besides, it is ascertained that health condition, lifestyle, cigarette and alcohol use/habit play very crucial role in depression. Depression levels between employment status and gender were examined and unemployed women's depression scores were found highest. The working men's depression scores were found lowest.Results are supported scientifically with the analysis carried out. Key Words : elderly, depression, employee
