Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to explore the extent of mobbing experienced by employees with disabilities in both the public and private sectors, as well as to identify the variables associated with this phenomenon. The research was conducted using a quantitative approach. A relational screening model was chosen, as the study seeks to examine both the dimensions of mobbing and the variables influencing it among disabled employees in different employment settings. The target population consists of individuals with disabilities employed across public and private institutions in Turkey. The sample comprises 408 disabled employees selected through convenience and snowball sampling techniques. Data were collected through a personal information form and the Mobbing Scale developed by Tursun in 2019. The data collection process took place between January and April 2025 using online platforms. The data were analyzed using SPSS 26. Descriptive statistics such as arithmetic mean and standard deviation were calculated, and inferential analyses including independent samples t-tests and one-way analysis of variance were performed. In cases where assumptions of normal distribution were not met, non-parametric alternatives and multiple comparison tests were applied. Findings indicate that disabled employees most frequently experience psychological mobbing behaviors such as being disturbed through gestures, facial expressions or eye contact, being the subject of unfounded rumors, and being assigned tasks that are below their qualifications. The results also show that employees working in the private sector, those with psychological or intellectual disabilities, women, and younger individuals report significantly higher levels of mobbing. Additional results reveal that individuals with lower educational attainment, those involved in romantic relationships, non-union members, and those with lower income levels tend to perceive mobbing more intensely. A majority of participants believe they are subjected to psychological harassment due to their disability status. They also report problems related to workplace accessibility and lack of support mechanisms. Despite these challenges, many respond to mobbing by remaining silent, which is shown to be an ineffective strategy. Based on the findings, institutional policies that protect disabled employees, particularly within the private sector, should be developed.
