Abstract (EN)

The investigations made for reaching success in business life, shows that people's intellectual intelligence is not enough on its own, their emotional intelligences are quite important to bring success as well. Positive environments are occurred in the workplaces where employees who have high emotional intelligence level, work in. On the other hand the burnout affects to the working life in a negative way on the contrary of the emotional intelligence. It decreases employee's performances. If any precautions are not taken or can not be found any solution, it will cause both material and moral losses. In previous studies regarding emotional intelligence, there were quite limited number of studies implemented in public sector. Within this scope; the objective of the this study is to determine the correlation between emotional intelligence levels and the occupational burnout tendencies of the public health workers. Considering the emotional intelligence is improvable, positive contributions can be presented in the direction of precaution of burnout with psychological strengthening and enhancement of the life quality. A study has been carried out in scope of the health workers who works in the public hospitals where are in city center of Manisa. Schutte emotional intelligence scale and Maslach burnout scale are used in the investigation. Considering demographic variables the relationship levels between emotional intelligence and burnout subscales have been interpreted by analysing the findings that is obtained at the end of the investigation. In terms of marital status, understandable variations can not be found in relationship levels between emotional intelligence and occupational burnout of the health workers. Nevertheless, at the lower subscale of the depersonalisation, more understandable results were obtained for men than women, according to gender of the employees. However, at the scale of the optimism, doctors have meaningfully higher point average in comparison with the other health workers. Keywords: Emotional Intelligence, Burnout, Health workers
