Determination of science literacy status of housewives who are not working

In This study, the changes in the science literacy status of housewives according to some variables were examined. In addition, the status of housewives associating knowledge in the field of science with daily life was also examined. The sample of the study consists of 777 housewives. Research data were collected using the "Science Literacy Test" and "Knowledge-Based Approach to Some Science Events in Daily Life Scale". In collecting the qualitative data, an open-ended "Semi-structured interview form" prepared by the researcher and supporting the quantitative data was used. As a result of the research, it has been determined that there is a significant difference between the education level of housewives, how many years they have been married, age variables and science literacy. It has been revealed that the science literacy of housewives who have a postgraduate education level, have been married for 1 month-5 years and have a 50-59 age group. It was found that there was a significant difference between the results of the scale of knowledge-based approach to some science events in daily life of housewives and the variables of educational status and how many years they were married. It has been determined that housewives with a postgraduate education and married between 1 month-5 years have higher scores on the scale of knowledge-based approach to some science events daily life. It has been determined that they get their knowledge about science mostly from television, internet and school and they use science knowledge while doing their housework.
