Effect of baicalein on glass matrix ceramic-dentin bonding strength

Abstract (EN)

In order to increase the long-term success of the adhesive bond, the idea of preventing biodegradation by using matrix metalloproteinase inhibitors is a current research topic. The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the effect of matrix metalloproteinase inhibitor use on the ceramic-dentin microtensile bond strength. The occlusal enamel of sixteen human mandibular wisdom teeth was prepared and overlays were obtained using glass matrix ceramic (Celtra Duo). Teeth were divided into 4 groups. In the control group, was cemented with total etch, dual cure resin cement (Variolink N) without pretreatment. In the dimethyl sulfoxide and baicalein group, solutions were applied after etching and cementation was done according to the manufacturer's instructions. In the Baicalein + Ultrasonic activation group, after etching, baicalein solution was applied, ultrasonic activation was performed for 10 seconds and ultrasonic activation was performed for 10 seconds at each stage so that the other components of the cement reached the same penetration depth with the baicalein solution. The samples were subjected to 5000 cycles of thermal aging. Microbar was obtained by cutting the samples and micro-tensile test was performed. The junctional surface and pretreated occlusal surface were visualized in a scanning electron microscope. The conformity of the data to the normal distribution was tested with the Shaphiro Wilk test, and the Kruskal Wallis and Dunn multiple comparison tests were used to compare the non- normally distributed features in more than two independent groups (P<0.05). Connection strength values of the control group were found to be significantly higher than the other three groups. As a result of the study, the use of 0.1% dimethylsulfoxide and 12.5 μmol/L baicalein solutions in glass matrix ceramic and dentin; total etch, dual cure resin cement (Variolink N) cementation was not recommended. More studies are needed with different resin cements and different baicalein doses to increase the durability of the glass matrix ceramic-dentine joint .
