ABSTRACTMSc THESISGEOLOGY OF SOUTHERN ÇAMLIYAYLA (NORTH OF TARSUS)MEHMET GÖKDEPARTMENT OF GEOLOGYINSTITUTE OF NATURAL AND APPLIED SCIENCESUNIVERSITY OF ÇUKUROVASupervisior: Prof. Dr. Cavit DEM RKOLYear: 2006 Pages: 52Jury: Prof. Dr. Cavit DEM RKOLProf. Dr. U.Can ÜNLÜGENÇAssoc. Prof. Erol ÖZERIn this study, 1/25.000 scale geological mapping have baen completed at Çamlıyaylaand Atdağı regions to the North of the Tarsus ( çel) which covers an area of approximately 72square km within the Kozan N33 d2-d3 topographical sheets.Seven stratigraphical units have been distinguished and mapped in this study result. These units, from bottom to the top, are Upper Triassic-Cretaceous age Demirkazıkformation; which was form the base of all unit and mainly comprises shallow marine andplatform carbonates, Upper Cretaceous age Mersin ophiolithes melange; Palecene- Eoceneage Kaleboynu formation which was comprises shallow marine units, from botlom to the tog, conglomera sundy conglomera and limestone; Oligocene-Lower Miocene Gildirli formationwitch have terrestrial origin, Lower-Middle Miocene Kaplankaya formation which ischaracterized by back reef sediments and finally Burdigaliyen-Langhian aged Karaisalılimestone characterized by reef limestone. The youngest sediments of the study area isQuaternary alluviums. Tertiary sediments, including conglomerate-standstone-limestone,Gildirli, Kaplankayaformation and Karaisalı limestone cover the upper Cretaceous rock unitswith angular uncorformity and the youngest sediments Quaternary alluviums overile all unitswith ungular uncorformity. While the Kaplankaya formation has transitional contact withKaraisalı limestone, it conformably rests on the Gildirli formation. In tectonic location of studying area, five faults have been distinguished and mappedin this area.Key words: Stratigraphy, Tertiary, Çamlıyayla, Atdağı.
