Abstract (EN)
Taking part in ceramic art , "Clay Wheel" or "pottery wheel" is a tool which can shape clay with the help of hand, foot or motor by centrifugal force. According to excavations primitive pottery wheels can be traced back to 5000 BC. Especially cart wheel which founds in L. Woolley excavations, prove the use of paddle system. Pottery wheel, while it was used to make daily necessities in the past, it started to be used for mass production in the course of time. Today, mud lathe is used in the production of artistic objects and sculpture. The aim of this study is to create sculpture in artistic field by adding, cutting and deforming the units formed by producing symmetrical forms on pottery wheel. This research consists of three parts. In the first chapter, the pottery wheel is explained in general terms, and its place on its historical development. In the second part, how the forming method is made in pottery wheel and the works of artists producing sculpture in pottery wheel are explained with examples. In the third part by evaluating the scope of the literature research, has tried to reach a conclusion by personal applications.
