Relation between atmospheric events and air quality in Çanakkale city

Industrialization, starting in the middles of the 19th century and expanding quickly all over the world, has caused apeed urbanization and this has lead to some enviromental problems. Air pollution problem takes the first place among these problems. The aims of this study are; examining the change of air quality with time in the city of Çanakkale between the 1991 (Jenuary)-2008 (March) years, determining the final situation of air quality particularities in Çanakkale and putting forth the relationship between air quality and temperature, pressure wind from the climate elements. The acquired results are as these:1. In the 1991 (Jenuary)-2008 (March) period when the air pollution levels were compored according to months, it eas determined that the maximum volues were in the December, Jenuary and February months.2. In the 1991 (Jenuary)-2008 (March) period it was determined that there tendency to decrease in SO2 quantity and increase in PM quantity.3. When the burning period between 1991 (Jenuary)-2008 (March) was analysed it was seen that for SO2 the maximum exceed period of Short Term Limit Value (400 ?g m-3) was 1991-1992 burning period.4. It was determined that PM values Short Term Limit Value (300 ?g m-3) never exceeded while for SO2 the number of Short Term Limit Value exceeding days were decreasing.5. It was determined thant the increase in the speed of temperature and wind decreased the pollutant quantity but increase in pressure in creased pollutant quantities.The statistical analyse, that was made with pollutants and pressure, wind, temperature datas, result?s being meaningful in 0.01 level has shown that for determining air quality in Çanakkale weather forecast and climate elements (pressure, wind, temperature) are basic determinative factor. It has been thought that the most important factor that leads to air pollution in Çanakkale is fuels used fort he purpose of heating.
