Some knitting stocks samples and new designs collected from some villages of Kızılırmak district of Çankırı proince

The hand made knitted stockings, which are one of the important examples of Turkish culture, are differs in materials, used tools, colors, subject and composition because of the geographical, social and economical reasons and also they show the specific characteristics of each region. It is observed that he examples of hand made knitted stockings, which are made either traditional or social and economical reasons, are not examined sufficiently, yet. This research is made to examine the hand made knitted stockings from the villages of Çankırı and Kızılırmak, and to these results in different areas. The first part of this six parted research, will underline the subject. The importance of the subject and the reasons of why this subject has been chosen, purpose of the research, its limitations and the procedure also will be enlightened in this part together with the references in historical order. In the second part historical, geographical, social and cultural positions of the region subjected to research are explained. In the third part knitting and stockings are explained in general. Definition of knitting and its importance, classifications; definition of stockings and its history, parts, used tools, type of stockings, its colors, applied techniques to made a stocking, repairing ways, subjects and compositional specifications are also explained in this part. In the fourth part, hand made knitting stockings observed during the researches in the villages of Çankırı and Kızılırmak are examined one by one. The observation forms, consisting of dimensions, used materials, tools, techniques, color, subjects, compositions and repair status of the stockings, were prepared by means of the photographs and 1/1 scaled drawings. mIn the fifth part, results of a public survey applied to the woman whom knit stockings, and observable specifications of examined stockings are tabulated by means of the observation form, and the obtained data were evaluated. In the sixth part, the general results related with the subject are explained and necessary suggestions are given in the light of the obtained results. Besides these all the references used during the research are also given in a different section named as references. The examples of observation forms prepared for the stockings and the example of the public survey form are given in the appendices. On the other hand in the practical part of the research obtained motifs of stockings from the region were prepared according to the original forms, in knitting machine for multi-color card (deco) system, and designed for the today's fashion.
