Abstract (EN)
This study aims to understand the experiences of third parties in conflict resolution and negotiation processes, the roles they assume, the solution strategies they develop, and the contextual factors that shape the process. Using a phenomenological design, a qualitative research method, this study is based on in-depth interviews conducted with 22 participants, including mediators and conciliators affiliated with the Alanya Courthouse. Participants were selected using a snowball sampling method, a purposive sampling method, and the data obtained were analyzed using content analysis. Within the scope of the study, the psychological, social and cultural dimensions that affect the conflict resolution and negotiation process and the basic competencies that third parties should have are discussed in detail. By analyzing dynamics such as social inequality, compromise culture, third-party tradition, and trust issues that influence the conflict resolution and negotiation process in collectivist societies, we contribute to filling a gap in the literature in this area. The findings demonstrate that third parties play roles in facilitating communication, ensuring justice, restoring relationships, and guiding the process, and highlight the factors that influence the process. In addition, the study provides guiding data on emotional management, trust building, persuasion skills, empathic approach, communication, balance of power and cultural sensitivity for individuals in leadership positions in conflict environments.
