Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to assess the flood risk in Çankırı Acıçay Watershed using GIS and remote sensing techniques. The watershed covers an area of 67,442 hectares and contains 4452 streams with a total length of 753,760 meters. The elevation varies from 700 meters to 2000 meters at the highest point. Floods, which are recurring natural disasters, pose significant challenges in the region by threatening both human settlements and ecosystems. To address these risks, spatial data and hydrological models were integrated into ArcGIS to analyze precipitation patterns, land slopes and elevation changes, as well as land use patterns and hydrological parameters. Remote sensing provided additional information, especially for vegetation classification and temporal monitoring. High-risk areas were determined by superimposing critical factors in the watershed. Hazard areas and possible precautions suitable for effective watershed-based flood management strategies were presented. This research has determined the flood and inundation risk areas on a local and watershed basis and revealed the areas where precautions need to be taken. Guiding results have been produced for planners in taking flood and inundation precautions in the watershed
