Design of solar dryer system with swirling flow for drying seeded grape

Abstract (EN)

In this thesis, a new solar dryer system with swirling flow was developed and the drying parameters were investigated for artificially drying of grapes growing in Elazığ province. For experimental study, drying system with solar energy including the developed air solar collector, FDM collector, and drying cabin was used.The study consists of eleven sections. The sections provides the important of drying and drying types, scanning the literature, dryer systems with solar energy, solar collectors, dryer theory, methods of storing solar energy, experimental study and method, the evaluation of obtained experimental results, mathematically modeling of drying curves, energy and exergy analysis, results and suggestions, respectively.At the final of the study, the obtained all results was compared. It was observed that drying by the developed dryer with swirl flow and air solar collector appeared in uniform way and crops being dried at swirling flow environment dried in less time and reached less moisture values. In the experiments realized in different speed, it was determined that drying time reduces as increasing the drying air speed. In addition, by putting air ventilation components into dryer and swirl components on the entrance section of the drying room, drying experiments was carried out also. Drying experiments realized at open air under natural conditions and drying time was compared. Accordingly, while drying time under natural conditions was 200 hours, by using together the developed solar collector and FDM collector at drying with swirling flow with air speed 1.5 m/s it was observed that drying time reduced to 56 hours.From the drying experimental results, the mathematical modeling of drying curves was carried out by nonlinear regression analysis methods. It was found that the obtained experimental and theoretical values were in harmony with one another. Energy and exergy analyze of the manufactured drying system was realized and the obtained results was interpreted.
