Abstract (EN)

Aim and introduction: DNA banks are centers where tissue, cell or isolated DNA samples are preserved for later analysis in order to profile DNA. Forensic use of DNA and DNA databases are used as the most effective tool in fighting with crime. People who will be included in database, whether to preserve biological samples or not, duration of preserving DNA profiles, conditions to be removed from database are some of the important matters for the DNA bank that has been planned to be founded in our country. This survey aims to raise awareness about the DNA bank that has been planned to be founded in our country, and to debate over forensic and ethical aspects. Materials and methods: 315 doctors who have been working in Manisa Celal Bayar University Hafsa Sultan Hospital in 2016 took part in this survey. Information about this research has been provided and their consents has been taken from surveyors, however they haven't been informed about the topic. Findings: According to results of the survey, 88,6% of the surveyors think that a forensic DNA database in our country is necessary. 63,8 % of the surveyors support preserving biological samples not taken from the whole community, including newborns, in DNA database, 64% of the surveyors suggest that security, direction, and control of the DNA databases should belong to government, 48,3% of the surveyors think that data exchange between countries could be possible with a protocol between them. 66% of the surveyors expressed that they have concerns since the genetic data in forensic DNA database could be misused, and 54,6 % of the surveyors said that they would not give biological sample to DNA database voluntarily. Conclusion: As we can see from the results, the center to be founded must be secure, DNA database is seen as necessity for our country, and there are concerns about giving samples to databases and sharing data.
