Investigation of the education programme of Salihli Vocational College, leather clothing department at Celal Bayar University

The aim of this study is to investigate the education programme of Salihli Vocational College, Leather Clothing Department at Celal Bayar University and to gather the opinion of students in the department upon this programme. The population of the study consists of the 1st and 2nd class students at Celal Bayar University, Salihli Vocational Collage, Leather Clothing Department in the 2005 ? 2006 educational period. Totally 111 students have been scaled and data obtained have been evaluated in the SPSS 13 package programme. In order to interpret the results of the study, frequency and percentage distributions have been gather in the analysis of the data and these have been demonstrated in the tables. When the data obtained from the research are evaluated, it is seen that Leather Clothing education programme is mainly liked by the department students. It is seen that some subjects can not be followed because of the inefficiency of the credits. The amount of lessons about the subject Basic Model Knowledge is seen inefficient and its objective also seen as insufficient. Durations of the other subjects in the programme are observed to be efficient and it is determined that their objectives are fulfilled. It is also seen that there are more subjects which need to be added in the programme. Sources used in the lessons are inadequate. The educational tools which are mostly used in the lessons are magazines and model books. Subjects in the programme can partly meet the expectations. Clothing products which are made in the lessons show similarities with the products in the market. Those products of students can be exhibited and sold. It is thought that those products partly attract attention out of the school. It is determined that technological innovations can be reflected in the lessons to some degree. New methods and techniques are not used in the lessons. Most of the students have difficulties in obtaining material. Workrooms are inadequate according to their space, number and equipments. It is seen that tools and equipments used in the lessons are not suited to the new technology and are far less in number. Programme in use is partly efficient according vi to the context. Education provided in the programme is partly suitable for the business life. Also teaching techniques are partly efficient. Evaluation techniques are partly found sufficient. It is mostly possible for the students to use their creativity in the lessons. Behaviours of the academic personnel are mainly in the quality that students might like the lessons. Besides education that the academic personnel provides is seen partly sufficient.
