Abstract (EN)

Since the beginning of the 20th century, the aviation sector has developed very rapidly and has become an important position in transportation action. The fast and comfortable travel opportunity that comes with air transportation; It has created the need for a new public space where planes can land and take off, parking needs are met, passengers can access the planes, all kinds of needs of the passengers can be met and they can serve at all hours of the day. These public spaces, which we define as airports, are complex structures that contain commercial and technical facilities required for passenger transportation or freight transportation. In this respect, it is located in a separate place from other architectural structures. Worldwide; In 2020, 1,8 billion passengers, and in 2021, more than 2,3 billion passengers traveled using the airports. Due to the increasing number of users, the existing terminal buildings serve more passengers than their capacity. This situation can cause time and comfort problems in transportation service. Passenger boarding systems, which are an important part of airport terminal buildings, are the part that connects terminal buildings and aircraft, and have an important place in terms of function, time and comfort in airport terminal buildings with different function levels. For this purpose, within the scope of this thesis, airport design principles are discussed and passenger boarding systems and the problems that occur in the system are defined in detail. In addition, it is aimed to increase the systemic performance and structural efficiency expected from the terminal connecting bridges, which are part of the passenger boarding systems to be used in the existing airport terminal buildings, with the possible expansion and renewal situations.
