summary '%:-|^, ;;>:' Master Thesis Murat SUNKAR The Geomorphology Of Çel i khan Plain (Adıyaman) And its Near Surrounding Fırat University The Instituation of Social Sciences Physical Geography 2000,88 Page Çelikhan Plain is a subsidance basin or plain on the fault zone of East Anatolia in the Southeastern Taurus. It is shaped on the Eastern Anatolia fault zone that takes between the east part of Sincik (Adıyaman), and the western part of Kurucaova (Adıyaman). It subsidanced. connecting to this fault and it is also tektono-karstic plain. Çelikhan Plain covers an area of about 11,3 km2 that is at the 1260-1320 m elevation. The main geomorphologic units in the study are mountain areas, the plateaus whose character is known, the plain and basins, the valleys and the georges. In the research areas, the level, in the mountains 1950-2200 m in high the level 1650-1950 m in high that is occured with the help of rivers and who's chracter is known the low level 1450-1650 m in high were observed in partly in a limited areas In general the mountainous areas around Çelikhan Plain are rising areas. In this rising the Southeasten Anatolia Thurust and East Anatolia Fault have been effective. In the research area there are four basins. From these Çelikhan Plain ha a tektonic and karstic formation. Kurucaova subsidanced connecting to the movement of East Anatolia fault and filled with the materials which are carried by running waters. The old basin of Abdulharap Lake becomes evident at the fault front and is taken form with karstic phenomenon. The Old Porga Plateau is a graben area that subsidanced with fault blocks. From the river basins in the resarches areas Çelikhan Plain, Kurucaova, the Old Abdulharap Lake and the Old Porga Plateau, is fastened to the out drenage capturing by Bulam, Kuruçay and Abdulharap streams in Quaternary. At the result of capturing is fastened to the out drenage by Bulam, Kuruçay and Abdulharap georges were occured. The Old Abdulharap Lake is a typical alluvial dammed lake which takes its source from Kerbelek Mountain and formed Meşebaşı Stream, the accumulation cones of Çalı Stream close front of Abdulharap Stream. Nowadays, this alluvial dammed lake is under the waters of Çat Dam. The Eastern Anatolia Fault had deformed effected the main geomorphological units in research area between Upper Miocene- Pliocene period. The fault being not onlyasingle line but it also continues in a 2-3 km lines by dividing into many arms, In this area ridges, hills and streams were asppeured.
