An evalvation of the studies conducted by Cemi̇l Sena on teaching of Turkish

ABSTRACTLanguage which constitutes the basics of humanity is the represent of the activities being formed with the environmental and cultural factors, life style and innate abilities.?The main language of man? and he had learned from childhood environments, of course, all communication is defined as the areas of language can express the most comfortable and easy. Therefore, the concept of mother tongue, of course, the relationship between a person speaking with their own language shows. "Education" concept, the school emphasizes the planned programmatic activity. After the start of primary school children in a manner suitable for the purpose of systematic and continues to learn the main language.This study aimed to describe the process of language acquisition, teaching methods and mother tongue which the human begin to learn and internalize from the moment of birth.Teaching methodology is examined which is appeared in the popular thinker and author Cemil Sena?s book ?Hususi Tedris Usulleri? published in 1926. This work of art that represent the research and review of the Cemil Sena Ongun; constitutes his lectures being on the occasion of 1927-1928 urban and rural courses in İstanbul Erkek Muallim Mektebi.The book was consisted of four hundred and eight pages and four sections. The first part of the book is discussed in this study. The subjects in this study which were examined with the qualitative analysis methods are classified as below.In the introduction section; the role and purpose of the primary school, teacher effect on the students, the role of the pragmatism in the education, the concept of mother tongue and native languages, the biography of the Cemil Sena and his books about the teaching methods are discussed.In the first section, teaching alphabet and methodologies, reading skill, quality of books, memorizing method and poetry reading techniques, importance of spelling, rules of composition, methods of grammar and writing practice are discussed.In the second section, opinions of Cemil Sena about listening trends and importance of listening is mentioned. Also impossibility of independence of four language skill is discussed. In addition, it was included that listening skill is equally important as the literacy skill in the instruction of how to read and write, and there is a positive effect of listening skill on the academic success at first grade of primary school.In the third section, author?s viewpoint on the reading skill is discussed. In addition to this, the methods and techniques to improve the reading skill are emphasized.The fourth section included the Cemil Sena?s viewpoint about the speaking instruction. This section also emphasized the issues like teaching children to speak self-confidently, to think freely on a any subject, to evaluate and compare at their own request under no pressure or influence.In the fifth section, Cemil Sena?s expectation of writing ability level of children namely ability to write what they see or hear is discussed. Accordingly, with regard to writing ability at the first grade, author?s view about planning, editing and presenting the written things to their friends in the class were emphasized.In sixth section, simplification study of Cemil Sena?s work of art namely Hususi Tedris Usulleri, which constitute the thesis subject was executed.In conclusion, this thesis examined the teaching methodology and language teaching across the language-culture relation to guide the teachers. Previously, there have been no studies about the ?Cemil Sena?s ?Tedris Usulleri?. This study can be considered as the first study that discuss and deal this work of art.Key Words: Language, mother tongue and native languages, teaching, teaching method.
