Abstract (EN)
In this study, it was aimed to investigate the biological activities of the below-ground and above-ground parts extract of Centranthus longiflorus subsp. longiflorus, which are widely used in our country. Plant samples were collected from different localities where the species spread naturally in flowering periods in 2014 (April-June) and separately below-ground and above-ground hexane, ethanol and methanol extracts were prepared. The antimicrobial activity tests of the extracts were performed using 5 different standard strains (Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538P, Bacillus cereus ATCC 7064, Escherichia coli W3110, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853 and Candida albicans ATCC 10231) and MIC (Minimum Inhibition Concentration) method. For the antioxidant activity studies, DPPH, total phenolic content calculation and CUPRAC methods were applied. In addition, the effects of plant extracts on DNA damage were investigated using pBR322 plasmid DNA. According to the data obtained from our study, extracts prepared from the below-ground of C. longiflorus subsp. longiflorus plant, especially hexane extract showed more antimicrobial activity than other organic solvents and it was found to be more effective than Gram negative bacterias. When the results of the antioxidant activity of the extracts were examined, the highest activity in free radical (DPPH) removal activity and total phenolic compound amount was found in extracts prepared with above and below-ground methanol. Finally, on the pBR322 plasmid DNA, it was determined that the extracts of above-ground hexane and methanol had no effect, but the other extracts showed DNA degrading or form-modifying effects. As a result of this study C. longiflorus subsp. longiflorus plant extracts have high phenolic content, antioxidant, antimicrobial and plasmid DNA effects have been determined and extracts obtained from this plant can be used in the pharmaceutical industry has been revealed.
