The Socio-cultural reasons of the translators problems in the translation process

This research aims to determine the factors that cause difficulties in the translation process. This research is composed of five parts; introduction, opinions related to translation matters, findings and interpretation and conclusion. In this research a survey form of 40 questions, composed of three parts named as Translators' Qualifications, Source Text Analysis and Transfer Into Target Language, is used. Its reliability is determined by expert opinion and as a result of the applications. The survey has been applied to 123 translators working in Izmir Metropolitan Area. Some of the findings obtained as a result of the research are as follows: 1. The translators have a full agreement with 'The translator's inability to use the syntactical and semantic structure of the source and target language" and they have a minimum agreement with "The lack of neologism in order for the source language to improve and renew itself. 2. The sex factor showed non-significant effect in the translators' answers. 3. The age factor showed non-significant effect in the translators' answers. 4. A significant difference occurred between the translators' answers to questions in all three parts, Translators' Qualifications, Source Text Analysis and Transfer Into Target Language, when the graduate school is considered. 5. A significant difference between the translators' answers to questions in all three parts, Translators' Qualifications, Source Text Analysis and Transfer Into Target Language, is found when the specialisation field is considered.
